Google has just disclosed the details in order to help researchers and policymakers better understand how cloud computing uses energy. In total, the company consumes approximately 260 million watts worldwide. This is equivalent to the power consumed by the homes of Richmond, Virginia and 200,000 people in Irvine, California. In comparison, that’s about a quarter of the power produced by a standard nuclear power plant.
