The Republican Party is facing an existential crisis – it has realized it cannot win the presidency, because Trump is not the candidate they once believed in. Among other things, the Trump craze has enflamed generation Z, and minorities are voting against him in large numbers. Additionally, voting has become easier in more states, including Texas and Georgia. The GOP’s embrace of Trumpism isn’t working, so the question remains, why are republicans so stupid?
This is the first step in recovering from this disaster. The GOP has to move to the center if they hope to win a majority in the senate. The next twenty or thirty years will be an important time to do so. In the meantime, the party’s base will have a much different outlook. In the meantime, it must cater to a younger generation – the millennials – than the older, non-college educated whites. As demographics change, the GOP will be a minority. In twenty years, Texas will turn blue.
There is a lot of evidence to suggest that Republicans are not actually stupid. For example, Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado has publicly demanded the removal of President Biden, saying he had “colluded with the Taliban.” She did not pull the troops out of Afghanistan quickly enough and praised the Taliban for building back faster than the US had. The press release she sent out even included the logo “IMEACH BIDEN.”
